✨😘 Thailand’s collaboration and development of small farmers in the sustainable production of oil palm according to the RSPO standard of Walailak University under the WU-Social Engagement program of the University of Walailak Academic Service Center for the fiscal year 2024 with Assistant Professor Dr. Somjai Nuphung, Lecturer of Economics, School of Accountancy and Finance, Walailak University is the project leader. The project aims to build cooperation with external agencies to drive sustainable oil palm production according to RSPO standards and to share knowledge and practices. To small farmers, farmers’ group managers and oil palm operators, as well as the establishment of a mentor system to support, promote and recommend sustainable production of palm oil and sell RSPO-certified oil palm credit through Palm-Trace in the global market.
The cooperation and development of small farmers in RSPO-compliant oil palm production held a meeting on how to raise the oil palm stand to the RSPO-standard on July 17, 2024, at the Faculty of Management Science Conference Room, Surat Thani Rajabhat University. Surat Thani was attended by officials from the Secretariat of the International Trade Negotiation Organization on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) from Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia, farmers, oil palm growers, oil palm planters, president of the National Oil Palm weaving Association and the Association’s Board of Directors. More than 40 representatives from regional and national government organizations, researchers working on sustainable oil palm production in the southern region understood about operational conditions, related laws, preparation of farmers, oil palm extraction plants and oil palm plant operators. In addition, he also summarized the guidelines for raising oil palm growers and oil palm taps to the RSPO standard.
Walailak University’s RSPO project is in line with the No. 1 SDGs, eliminating poverty in all forms, in accordance with the 1.4 goal of eliminating poverty for communities. Indicator 1.4. 1 Support local communities for sustainable start-ups through university education or learning, and 2nd, Zero Hunger eliminates hunger, achieves better food security and nutrition, and promotes sustainable agriculture in accordance with the goal of 2.5, National Hunger, Indicator 2.5. 2 Organizing events or activities for local farmers and food producers to create a network and exchange learning with each other 🌟💖
