Walailak University Develops and Conducts Training Course on “The Creation of Religious Offerings (Money and Gold Trees)”
Walailak University, through the project on documenting and preserving the creation of religious offerings dedicated to the Phra Borommathat Chedi in Nakhon Si Thammarat, led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Pairoj Nuannoom, a faculty member in the Bachelor of Economics program at the School of Accounting and Finance, Walailak University, organized an exhibition and seminar to disseminate knowledge about the creation of religious offerings. This knowledge was gathered through field surveys and in-depth studies aimed at raising awareness, promoting understanding, and fostering collaboration for revitalization and further development.
Two key events were held under the project: (1) A seminar titled “Religious Offerings: The Art of Metal Sculpture” on Friday, April 12, 2024, at the Borwonakorn Building, Thawang, Mueang Nakhon Si Thammarat District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province; and (2) An exhibition and seminar titled “Revitalizing Religious Offerings: Continuing Faith, Preserving the Wisdom of Local Artisans in Nakhon Si Thammarat” on May 21, 2024, at Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan Temple, Nakhon Si Thammarat.
The objectives of the project on documenting and preserving the creation of religious offerings dedicated to Phra Borommathat Chedi are threefold: (1) to document and preserve the making of religious offerings, which consist of flowers and trees crafted from metal; (2) to revitalize the creation of these offerings to present as a tribute to Phra Borommathat Chedi; and (3) to revive the tradition of presenting religious offerings to Phra Borommathat Chedi.
This project aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, which aims to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. It directly relates to Indicator 11.2.6: Documenting and preserving folk art and cultural heritage. Additionally, it supports Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals, particularly Indicator 17.2.1: Fostering collaboration with partners towards achieving sustainable development through global partnerships.
